Honda's paint issues never cease to amaze me.

At most this car is 16 years old. T hat’s younger than most anyone that can legally drive it, yet it looks like it’s seen 30 years of desert sun.

I’ve seen 2006-2010 Civics like that

I believe there was even a paint recall for the 8th gen due to that.

Half paint, half Honda owners.

I feel like I’ve seen a number of black A ccords from this generation do this, but I would also have to image in MA it spends a lot of the year looking like this, which can’t be good for the paint.

Oh I miss my old black 08 Civic’s paint..not. Although it was cool getting them to repaint parts under a tsb.

Was literally just thinking the same thing. Saw one the other day, thought it must be pretty new, yet the paint was already peeling on the roof. Only saw it from the back, but it could’ve been as new as a 2014 Civic coupe.

Yes we get it Honda paint sucks for the 5000000th time don’t remind me that my Odyssey’s clear coat is starting to peel on the roof...

There was a recall on that paint years ago. My girlfriend drives an 06 Civic Coupe. She opted to not take it in because I guess she was busy for those 6 months.

Apart from Honda’s objectively bad paint, they also attract the “Appliance Crowd” who doesn’t exactly wax them every 6 months. Not a great combination of factors.

I bet that car also might have spent half its life with road salt and the other half with Florida sun.

Even in the gentle climate here I have seen numerous dark colored Hondas with failed paint, especially of the prior generation - although like so many people here, the cars may be transplants.

In the high altitude desert southwest, any car that lived outside without considerable attention paid to keeping wax on it looks like that well before they’re 10 years old. On a side note, I can’t fathom why that car has clear windows. I’m getting a sunburn and shedding a tear for disintegrated interior surfaces   just looking at that picture.

this kind of degradation tends to be from UV and wax doesn’t really protect against that.

It’s awful, but I’m glad we are at the point where we complain about the paint on 16 year old car instead of thinking that it’s already 6 or so years past the point it should have gone to scrapper.

So much this.  I remember when most cars took meticulous maintenance to get more tha. 8-10 years out of them, and if they were from certain makes, even then it was a crap shoot..

I think it was just that era of Honda’s. Older Honda’s I see don’t have peeling clearcoat.

My part of the state gets relatively little snow amd thus doesn’t salt nearly as much. Besides, that kind of clearcoat failure  is from UV damage.

Yeah Honda has always been cheap with paint a clear coat. If you take care of it, it won’t do that but though just normal washes it could still  fade

And the thing is the previous gen had better paint. Not by much but still

I had a 2008 civic that started to look remarkably like that at around 2013. It had it fixed and partly paid for by Honda.

I replaced the ‘08 Civic with an ‘04 TL, and I am amazed at how much better the Acura was built. No clear coat issues, and all the issues the 4 year old newer Honda had, the TL has none of. These include broken speakers, falling headliner, rattles and squeaks everywhere, etc. etc.

Honda is known for t hin paint, but this car is 2004 at the latest (2005 USDM Accords got the cheaper all-red taillamp lenses) . This isn’t that surprising here in CA where cars of that vintage will typically look quite tired.
